Parliament has been recalled to sit half past two o’clock in the afternoon of Sunday, 21st January, 2018 to swear in the Right Honourable Speaker, Mike Aaron Ocquaye as Acting President of the Republic of Ghana.
A statement from the Office of the Speaker released on Friday, January 19 and signed by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Joseph Osei-Wusu gave no further reasons for the abrupt recall.
Meanwhile, per the article he stated, that is, Article 60 (11) and (12) of the 1992 Constitution, it is evident that both the President and his Vice are, or will be out of the country by 2:30 pm on Sunday.
On Friday January 19, 2018, the Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, left Ghana for the United Kingdom for medical leave. A statement from the Office of the President explained that Dr. Bawumia’s medical leave is “on the advice of his doctors”.
The Vice President “was accompanied by the 2nd Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia”, the statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare added.
