Astute football administrator and the chairman of Neoplan Stars,Mr . Jonathan Abbey Pobee is suggesting that the new football reforms in Ghana considers introducing the Video Assistance Referee ( VAR ) in matches involving Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The member of the local organizing committee for AFCON 2008 who was reacting to the agitation by Hearts of Oak fans which led to throwing of seats into the inner perimeter of the Baba Yara Stadium during the club’s 2-0 defeat to Kotoko said;

“I think to avoid a third May 9th, the reform committee and the normalization committee should consider the possible introduction of that technology to avoid any doubt .Because we can’t gamble with the safety of referees and other officials just because of crowd misbehaviour. ” He said.

The VAR technology which gives referees a second view on incidence of doubts, was used at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and has since been implemented in both the Serie A and the Spanish league.
