A journalist with Kumasi-based Angel was not spared the wrath of private security personnel of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who descended on him and beat him to pulp in his attempt cover their encounter with students of the institution.
His camera (Canon E750D DSLR with 64GB memory card) was seized by the security men and their whereabouts currently unknown.
Managers of the station have since has petitioned the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) to intervene in the matter that has left the journalist traumatized with some injuries.
According to what MyNewsGh.com gathered, the Journalist was filming students at a vigil last Friday, October 19, 2018 on the university campus with his camera when the security men pounced on him.
According to Edward Amagyei Naaso he was there right at the beginning of the vigil when the security personnel stormed Katanga hall and started brutalizing all on sight and later arrested some of the students.
“Everything happened under by nose”, he said.
The journalist indicated that, he took footages of the whole incident that took place and that could be great evidence against KNUST.
“Just after they seized my camera, they attacked the students and began brutalizing them” The reporter gave his account.
Angel FM in a press statement has, however, petitioned the Ghana Journalist Association and authorities of the University to immediately release the equipment to avoid further banter with the media house.
