Over 70 people have been confirmed dead in a gory accident which took place in the early hours of today, Friday 22nd March 2019 on the Tamale-Kintampo Highway road.
The VVIP bus with the registration number GT 3915-17 was traveling from Upper East Region specifically, Garu when it crashed head-on into a Grandbird bus with registration number GT 5694-18 which was traveling from Accra to Upper East Region capital, Bolgatanga.
The accident occurred at Amoma village near Kintampo in the newly created Bono East Region. As it stands now, the cause of death has not been determined.
But according to reports reaching Ghpage.com, one of the drivers was dozing and lost control of the vehicle but Ghpage.com is waiting for the official report from the police for confirmation.
According to eyewitnesses Grandbird caught fire as a result of the crash, Most of the passengers have been burnt beyond recognition. The VVIP bus veered into a ditch killing many.
The report reveals that it took the fire service personnel over 30 minutes to put off the flames from the busses.
The ‘lucky’ survivors have been rushed to nearby hospitals such as Jema Government Hospital, Kintampo Government Hospital and the Holy Family Hospital for medical attention. The authorities are still counting the number of lives lost.
