Ghanaian professional footballer who plays for Sabail in the Azerbaijan Premier League, as a midfielder, Michael Kojo Essien is saying he would love to play in the South African league.
Essien told the South African media at a Budweiser event; “South Africa is not bad, I would like to come here. You can never say never, I am keeping my options open.”
Michael Essien said he loves football and does not think of retiring anytime soon.
“I love football, I love football…I have played it my whole life. So, I am not thinking about retirement at all (for now).”
According to him, South Africans should try their best in exporting some of their local players into the International soccer world.
He also praised their national team’s ability to beat the Egyptian national team at just ended Afcon 2019.
“I don’t know [why South Africa hasn’t exported many players]. In football you can’t really explain what’s going wrong.”
“On a personal level, I think they have to just keep pushing and working hard. Take their chances and see what happens.” n
“However, I think they did well because they beat Egypt,” he concluded.
Essien started his career playing for Liberty Professionals in Ghana.
He is currently aged 36-years.
