WATCH VIDEO: Kasoa petty traders exchange blows with contractor

One person is reported unconscious and five others injured after some petty traders at Kasoa in the Central region clashed with a contractor.

This follows a forceful ejection of the traders from the new market by construction firm, KATSEC Construction Company after they had secured an injunction from the Winneba High Court.

The court after review granted the construction firm permission to finish the project which is 75 percent complete.

However, the traders, who had already moved into the sheds which is yet to be allocated to them, clashed with workers of the firm who attempted to move their goods.

Adom News’ Central Regional correspondent, Seth Kofi Adjei, who was at the scene said some of the traders traded blows with the construction workers for not giving them prior notice.

Those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic for treatment.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of KATSEC Construction Company, Charles Kojo Odoom, in an interview expressed shock at the conduct of the traders.

He explained that, until they complete the project, it will be very dangerous for the traders to move in.

“Most of the pillars are not very strong and there is no electricity in the sheds but the traders started pelting us with stones when we decided to move them,” he added.

Mr Odoom said most of his workers have sustained serious injuries and have been rushed to the Kasoa Polyclinic for treatment.

He maintained that, they will continue their work as directed by the court until another order is granted.
