CRIME: 8 ‘unposted’ teacher trainees arrested for picketing at GES

At least eight leaders of Graduate Teacher Trainees, who picketed the grounds of the Ghana Education Service (GES), have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

The eight, yet to be confirmed, led dozens of protesters representing about 3,000 teacher trainees nationwide to demand postings.

Police Commander attached to the Ghana Education Service, Supt. Florence Owusu, who confirmed the arrest, narrated to Joy News that the group alleged they had been invited there by GES authorities despite denial by GES Executives.

They were arrested after they refused to comply with directives by the police to retreat and have been sent to the Regional Police Quarters for questioning.

But, the spokesperson for the Unposted Teacher Trainees, Asante Agyeman Solomon, insists that the group cooperated peacefully with the Police Service and thus did not warrant any harassment.

He maintained that the call for attendance came from the Human Resource Directorate of the GES.
