Notorious robber arrested after breaking into IMF country director’s residence

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a series of residential robbery in the national capital, Accra.

Mohammed Buzu who has been described by the police as ‘notorious’, was arrested at his hideout at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle by personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Police said in a statement on Monday, February 24, that the suspect is linked to a recent attack on the residence of a country director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Accra.

He has also been linked to a robbery incident at the residences of the Ambassador of Kuwait to Ghana and a Lebanese businessman.

Items retrieved from the suspect’s Dansoman home included assorted visa cards, wrist watches, mobile phones, backpacks, a diplomatic card issued by the government of Ghana.

The others are, drivers’ license issued in Virginia, USA, both bearing the name of the wife of one of the victims, passport photos of white male and female adults amongst many others.

Two of Mohammed’s accomplices, Kenneth Antwi and Baffour Adjei Gyimah were also arrested by the police.

“Suspect Kenneth Antwi is a receiver and sponsor for Buzu’s robbery escapade while suspect Baffour Adjei Gyimah is a receiver”, the statement signed by police spokesperson, Sheilla Kesse Abayie-Buckman explained.

The suspects, according to the police, have been involved in several residential robberies in Accra, especially in Cantonments and North Ridge.

All the three suspects have since been remanded into police custody by a circuit court in Accra presided over by Her Honour Rosemary Baah Torsu (Mrs).
