A Botswana woman took April Fools jokes a little too far after she posted on her official social media account that she had tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Posting on Facebook, Lekang Matlhomola, sensationally said that she had tested positive for COVID-19 which has already killed one in the country.
Following the post, social media users were sent into wide-spread panic. The woman was to later reveal in the comments section that she joking but this sparked massive outrage. Most social media users did not take her joke lightly and lambasted her attention-seeking forcing her to take down the post.
This comes shortly after Botswana recorded its first death from the coronavirus, as the number of confirmed cases continues to rise. Announcing the tragic development on Tuesday, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane, said that the now deceased had recently arrived into the country from South Africa-which is battling to contain the outbreak.
‘The fourth case is a 79-year-old woman who arrived from South Africa on the 15th of March and died on the 25th,’ Tsogwane said.
Botswana reported it’s first 3 COVID 19 cases on the 30th of March 2020. According to Minister of Health & Wellness Dr Lemogang Kwape, a couple who had visited Thailand, and a man who had visited the United Kingdom are the first 3 cases who tested positive for COVID 19. As a preventative measure against the spread of the respiratory disease, Botswana’s President, Eric Mokwgweetsi Masisi has since declared that there will be a nationwide lockdown starting on Thursday.
