Tanzania President, John Pombe Magufuli, faults test kits after a test conducted on non-human samples turned out positive.
According to the President who obviously did not trust the source of the test kits that were imported into his country, he instructed security forces to take samples from non-human sources.
They took that of a goat, sheep, pawpaw etc and labeled each container with human names, submitted them to laboratory officials who were unaware of the sources for testing.
The results of the sheep, goat and few others turned out positive whilst others were either negative or inconclusive.
In Magufuli’s own words, “This tells you that something is not adding up. Are we now supposed to quarantine goats and fruits?
He further added that, “there is something happening. I said before we should not accept that every aid is meant to be good for this nation,”. obviously, Magufuli did not trust the source of the test kits.
He made these statements during a swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba.
Is Magufuli’s claim a good reason for other African countries to be worried? Should they conduct their independent investigation to test the efficiency of these items received at the advent of the pandemic?
