57 police officers have resigned to support their colleague officers who were fired for hurting a 75-year-old man.
More than 50 police officers in Buffalo have resigned in support of two colleagues who were suspended after a video showed them pushing a 75-year-old peace activist to the ground who then cracked his head and was hospitalized with severe injuries.
The resigning 57 officers comprised the entire Buffalo police department (BDP) emergency response team. They will still be employed by BDP and be paid, but they will no longer work on the emergency response team.
The incidence may increase tension in the fight against police brutality.
Prosecutors are now investigating and two officers have been suspended.
A few Americans touched on the issue on Twitter.
“They didn’t quit their jobs they just quit the riot response team – they are all still employed and still cops – all of them need to be fired”
“Even worse. They’re still on the force. They just resigned from that particular assignment because justice was given to that 75 year old man. Not willing to stand up for what’s right and *still* taking a paycheck for it.”
“That’s not even why they quit. They quit in protest of their 2 fellow officers being suspended without pay. So they’re basically worse than they were yesterday.”
“Hey cube, just curious if BLM, why don’t you say anything everyday about black on black crime? That seems to be the highest crime rate in America compared to police brutality on blacks. How about the blacks that were killed during the riots. Do they matter to you?”
