We humbly write to inform and remind commercial drivers to abide by the 15% increment in transport fares.
We are very elated by the government decision to implement an option of our proposal presented by the GPRTU and other transport union. A 10% increment in transport fares was effected as far back as September 2019, and it’s a clear indication of the government intention not to over burden the ordinary citizen.
Due to the impact of COVID19 commercial Drivers were asked to reduce the intake of passengers, and this has badly affected economic lives. This directive clearly was introduced to help improve social distancing protocols and reduce the spread of the virus and not otherwise. We should all bear in mind that the world at large is not in normal times as this deadly pandemic has crippled almost all sectors of the economy.
We’ve therefore been assured by the government that transport fares will be pasted at various transport terminals and any commercial driver founds flouting this directive should be dealt with accordingly by the law. We urge the police, and the motor traffic regulators to ensure strict compliance of this directive.
